The New Zealand Cinematographers Society, in association with Waikato Screen and Wintec /Te Pukenga, is delighted to bring a Professional Development Masterclass into the region! After many requests, we have joined with Waikato Screen to bring an Introduction to Cinematography for Drama Masterclass to Hamilton on Sat, June 8th. The tutor will be cinematographer Donny Duncan NZCS, a DP with over 30 years experience locally and internationally. Places on the course will be limited to 20 participants, allocated on a first-in-first-served basis.
This will be an intensive one-day Masterclass, looking at the basic building blocks of Cinematography for Drama on projects like web series, short films, TV series and feature films.
This course will appeal to a wide range of intermediate experience levels including OPC camera operators looking at widening their experience, camera assistants on the move up, directors/producers wanting inside knowledge about the craft and students keen on entering the industry.
The program will include hands-on demos with recent camera systems, a practical overview of current lighting technology, cinematography theory, tips, tricks and insights from Donny’s career experience accompanied by stills and video excerpts.
Topics covered will include:
• Script breakdown, schedule prep and Director/HOD collaboration.
• Choice of equipment and new technologies - practical demo
• Camera movement, lens options, continuity and lines of action
• Virtual Cinematography, Greenscreen and Vis FX work
• Overview of lighting equipment and techniques - practical demo
• Attitude and the importance of professionalism
• Useful apps and resources for cinematography
