Join us in Auckland with Stephen Murphy ISC BSC as we explore the realm of shadows and darkness through a casual evening of storytelling.
In New Zealand to shoot Heart Eyes, Irish cinematographer Stephen Murphy has offered his time to share his passion for mood and atmosphere across projects such as No One Gets Out Alive, Atlanta, Mr and Mrs Smith and The Tourist S2.
Stephen's journey into the depths of darkness was initially sparked by his background in comic illustrations, a passion that led him into the world of makeup and SPFX for film, and eventually emerge as a defining characteristic of his cinematographic work.
The question for Stephen is not where he will put all the lights; rather, it is which lights he will have so that it can drop off into shadow. The shadow, he continues, is the most evocative part of the image. He uses the interplay between light and shadow to shape the scene and the mood.
So, come grab a drink, mingle with fellow enthusiasts, and join us as we immerse you in the magic of Stephens cinematic storytelling. You can ask questions, engage in casual conversations, and gain valuable insights that you won't find anywhere else.
We'll start with beverages and snacks at 6:30 PM, followed by the presentation kicking off at 7:00 PM.
Limited seating available. RSVP required. Free for NZCS Members. Non-members $35.
