An Afternoon with Erika Addis, President of the ACS

The New Zealand Cinematographers Society is delighted to have renowned Australian cinematographer, Erika Addis, share her experiences, particularly in equity, diversity and inclusivity. Erika is the current Australian Cinematographers Society National President and is our guest speaker at the awards event following this talk.

In 2022, cinematographer Erika Addis became the first woman National President of the ACS. She previously served as National Vice-President and Queensland State President. In 2012 she was the founding Chair of the ACS Women’s Advisory Panel, which evolved in 2021 to become the Diversity, Inclusion and Reconciliation working group.

Erika is widely recognised for her work behind the camera and also in the classroom, and, in an area still heavily dominated by men, she has been a trailblazer and mentor for women in camera for some 40 plus years. She has mentored numerous emerging cinematographers and filmmakers.

Erika will be joined by a moderator and a panel of local stakeholders who will add their perspective to our NZCS initiatives to promote diversity amongst under-represented groups in our cinematography world.

Among topics discussed will be "A Wider Lens" - a comprehensive report on diversity in the Australian film industry. Although it makes very sobering reading, we will look ahead to recent success stories from cinematographers like Mandy Walker AM, ACS, ASC and Ari Wegner ACS, ASC and the remarkable in-roads they are making, as well as the moves the NZCS is making locally to redress the balance as a long term goal. You can check out a short film about the survey here

We'll also discuss "Credit Maker", the scheme funded by Screen Australia that supports paid mentorships on a TV series for a mid-level woman cinematographer who then gets to shoot an entire episode of a 6-8 episode series.

NZCS is pleased to invite you to listen to Erika talk about her incredible work and life, and join us for complimentary tea and coffee.
