With the first of the Sony FX9 cameras beginning to appear on the New Zealand horizon, it raises questions. How do they pack a 6K oversampling full-frame sensor, 4K recording and a new generation of hybrid AF and who knows what else into a run and gun sized body?
More to the point, what’s it like to use in real life?
The way to find out, is to meet the highly respected cinematographer Tom Gleeson ACS, (pictured) who recently set out to answer the same questions and is flying to Auckland to discuss the results with NZCS.
Sure, you can search Sony PXW-FX9 online, but that is dry stuff compared to meeting with a cinematographer like Gleeson and with Anthony Kable, the Content Creation Group Manager for Sony Australia.
Between them they will give you the detail you need so you know exactly where this new technology fits in. What's more, the best place to get a sense of how your colleagues in the professional camera community see the new camera, is over drinks and nibbles at an NZCS event like this.
And if you haven't been to the Department of Post theatre before, prepare to be impressed.
