2018 NZCS Awards for cinematography entries

Registration

  • Productions filmed by entrants who were students at time of filming the entry.
  • Musical, or concert items shot for the purpose of entertainment or promotion.
  • News or current affairs stories or segments broadcast on regular television news or current affairs programs.
  • Light entertainment human-interest productions or segments. For example: travel, leisure, gardening, property, cooking, entertainment, science, sports, arts and reality shows.
  • Productions for a corporate or educational market designed to teach or inform. Includes longer online infomercials.
  • Short dramatised productions.
  • Traditional documentary productions normally dealing with people in relation to their environment. Includes any full-length television, cinema or web documentary.
  • Documentaries based on real life situations where a majority of content is re-enactments of actual events that involve professional actors who are controlled by a director.
  • Specialised cinematography productions or sections of productions. For example, specialised micro-photography, macro photography, ultrahigh speed, underwater, aerial, and specialised second unit chase or stunt sequences. This category now includes Experimental and Installation entries. Experimental productions or cinematography that is breaking new ground or developing new techniques. Projects that are intended primarily as artworks, architectural, installations and other non-traditional cinematography.
  • Commercials for release on any distribution channel.
    Entries must have been specifically shot for this purpose and not re-purposed from other material.
  • An episode from a series made for TV broadcast, subscription service or web. From a season enter a single episode where you were the DP.
  • A non-theatrical one-off production made for broadcast TV or subscription release.
  • Feature productions intended for national or international theatrical release.

Building on the success of the previous awards, the third NZCS Awards for Cinematography  will once again showcase excellent,  world-class  New Zealand cinematography. You can be part of this event.   

The NZCS Awards are unique because they are the camera community's own awards, celebrating cinematography across 13 categories:  

1.   Student films 8.   Dramatised documentaries
2.   Music videos 9.   Specialised cinematography,
      Experimental & Installation
3.   New and current affairs 10. Commercials
4.   Magazine, lifestyle, reality 11. Teleseries
5.   Corporate and educational 12. Telefeatures
6.   Short Films 13. Feature films
7.   Documentaries


For the  2018 edition, we have combined Experimental & Installation entries with category (9) Specialised cinematography.

Your work will be evaluated, recognised and celebrated by your peers. Because there can be more than one gold, silver, or bronze award in each category there is room for you to win an award no matter what genre or format you work in, or what your budget was. 

Register now - media must be submitted by 13 August 2018. 

The awards will be celebrated at a prestigious black tie dinner in the Grand Tea Room of the Heritage Hotel Auckland on Saturday 20 October 2018, (tickets sold separately).
